Roy’s Hawaii: A Local Guide to Oahu’s Top Eats and Sights

WAIKOLOWA, HI

Hawaiian cuisine with international influences; no dedicated gluten-free menu but many dishes can be adapted; vegetarian-friendly; resort casual atmosphere

Dining at Roy’s Hawaii in Waikoloa is a delightful experience. The restaurant presents a diverse menu with thoughtfully prepared dishes that appeal to seafood lovers, meat eaters and vegetarians alike. While there isn’t a separate gluten-free menu, the kitchen is flexible and willing to modify many items to accommodate gluten-free needs.

The staff, including the manager and kitchen team, demonstrated a solid understanding of celiac disease and cross-contamination concerns. They were attentive, communicative and careful to address dietary restrictions. Service was professional and warm, and each course we tried arrived perfectly cooked and well composed.

Among the dishes we sampled were edamame (served in place of bread), an impressive surf & turf featuring filet mignon and shrimp in a buttery wine sauce with haricot verts, a grilled tofu “steak” option that can substitute for fish or meat on many plates, and a warm chocolate soufflé that stood out as an exceptional dessert. Portions were generous and presentation was refined without being fussy.

Roy’s strikes a nice balance between island flavors and international techniques, making it a reliable choice for groups with mixed dietary needs. The team’s willingness to adjust preparations and explain ingredients makes it a comfortable option for gluten-free diners and vegetarians who want a memorable meal in a relaxed, resort-casual setting.
