Crispy Spicy Crab Roll Hash Browns

Sushi flavors piled onto a crispy hash brown patty sounded like a brilliant idea, so here’s my simple and attractive recipe for Spicy Crab Roll Hash Browns. This mashup replaces sushi rice with golden hash browns and tops them with creamy avocado and a spicy crab salad for a fun, handheld twist on a favorite roll.

I love making quick “lazy sushi” at home, and this version is both playful and satisfying. A cucumber was on my prep board, but I decided to let the avocado and crab take center stage.

How to make Spicy Crab Roll Hash Browns

Start by cooking frozen hash brown patties until they are golden and crisp. I used an air fryer set to 400°F for 10–12 minutes, which produced a crunchy exterior and tender interior. If you prefer the oven, follow the package directions for baking instead.

While the hash browns cook, prepare the spicy crab mixture. Chop 4 ounces of imitation crab into bite-sized pieces, then combine it in a bowl with about 1 tablespoon of sriracha mayo. Taste and adjust the spice or mayo to your liking—add a little more sriracha for heat or a touch more mayo for creaminess.

When the hash browns are done and nicely browned, remove them from the air fryer or oven and let them cool briefly so the toppings don’t slide off. Mash a ripe avocado until smooth and spread a generous layer over each hash brown to add richness and a silky texture that pairs perfectly with the crab.

Spoon the spicy crab mixture on top of the avocado-topped patties, building a small mound. The contrast between the crispy base and the cool, creamy topping is part of what makes these so delicious.

Finish with optional garnishes for extra flavor and visual appeal: a drizzle of ginger soy glaze, a little more sriracha mayo, a dab of wasabi sauce, sesame seeds, or pickled ginger on the side. These add layers of umami, heat, and acidity that echo classic sushi accompaniments.

Pile on the spicy crab salad, and you have a striking appetizer or main dish that’s easy to assemble and fun to share. I like to serve these with forks, since they can be a little messy, but they also work well for casual gatherings where guests can pick them up.
