This caramel sauce is incredibly simple to make with just three ingredients: sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Homemade caramel is easier than most people think and perfect for dipping apples, topping ice cream, drizzling over pie, or simply enjoying by the spoonful.
I’m a bit of a sweet tooth, and caramel is my weakness. The flavor and silky texture keep me coming back for more. Make a batch when you want something indulgent—it’s quick, satisfying, and far better than store-bought jars.
All you need is LOVE… and Caramel.

I discovered just how easy it is to make caramel at home recently. With pantry staples you probably already have, you can skip the store-bought jars and make a fresher, richer sauce in minutes.
3 Ingredient Caramel Dip (Quick & Easy!)
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tbsp butter (room temperature)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (preferably room temperature)
- 1 tsp salt (optional)
Instructions
-
Heat the sugar in a large, dry pan over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. The sugar will clump and then melt into a thick amber-brown liquid.
-
When the sugar is fully melted, add the butter in smaller chunks so it melts evenly. Be careful: the mixture will bubble vigorously and can splatter—use a larger pan if possible.
-
Stir for about 3 minutes until the butter is completely incorporated and the caramel is smooth.
-
Slowly drizzle in the heavy cream while stirring. Watch for splatters as the mixture will bubble up again.
-
Allow the mixture to boil gently for one to two minutes until it rises slightly and becomes glossy.
-
Remove from heat and stir in salt to taste, especially if you used unsalted butter.
-
Let the caramel cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before using. As it cools it will thicken.
-
Store leftovers in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or at room temperature for up to two days.
Notes
- The cooler the caramel becomes, the thicker it gets. Heat it gently before drizzling over ice cream or pie for a smooth pour.
- Do not substitute regular milk. Condensed milk or half & half may work, but heavy cream gives the best texture and flavor.

The only thing I love more than caramel is caramel covered in caramel.

I can’t resist adding more caramel to the menu. It’s an easy treat to make any time you crave something sweet and comforting.
