This keto fish pie is a simple, comforting dinner that swaps mashed potato for a cheesy cauliflower topping to keep it low carb. Tender white fish, salmon and prawns are combined in a creamy, tangy cheese sauce and finished with a golden cauliflower mash.

Fish pie is a classic British dish traditionally topped with mashed potato. In this keto version, cauliflower provides a light, flavorful alternative for the topping while cream cheese and heavy cream create a rich, low-carb sauce. The result is a hearty, satisfying meal that’s great for weeknights or a cozy weekend dinner.
Ingredients
Simple, low-carb ingredients come together to make this delicious fish pie.

How to Make a Keto Fish Pie
Work in three main stages for an efficient cook: topping, sauce and fish.
- Topping – Cook the cauliflower first; it can simmer while you prepare the sauce.
- Sauce – Make the cheese sauce and set aside until needed.
- Fish – Poaching or steaming preserves moisture and flavour; you can also bake or grill the fish if you prefer.

Cook and mash the cauliflower with cheese and herbs for a smooth, creamy topping.

Place the cooked fish and prawns in a baking dish before adding the sauce and topping.

Spoon or pipe the cauliflower mash over the fish and sauce.

Bake until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
Baking Tips
This recipe works well in one large dish or in individual ramekins. You can assemble the pie, cover and refrigerate it until you’re ready to bake. For a firmer top, allow the cauliflower mash to cool slightly before spooning it on.

Variations
Make the dish your own with a few substitutions or additions:
- Use smoked fish for deep, savory flavour.
- For a special occasion, add lobster or crab.
- Stir cooked spinach into the filling for extra greens.
- Sautéed mushrooms add earthiness and texture.
- Add a splash of white wine to the sauce for acidity and depth.
- Swap cheddar for smoked Gouda for a smoky twist.
- Include sliced hard-boiled eggs if you prefer a more traditional fish pie style.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture, or use the microwave for a quicker option.
What to serve with keto fish pie
Serve with a simple green vegetable or salad. Other low-carb sides that pair well include cheesy green beans, roasted asparagus or garlic-parmesan roasted broccoli.
