Sprinkle Celebration Ideas for Cakes, Cupcakes, and Desserts

We’ve planned an extra-special week of baking on Instagram to celebrate our editor-in-chief’s birthday on April 28. All week on IGTV, Brian Hart Hoffman will feature sprinkle-filled recipes and techniques from our March/April issue. Follow along with @thebakefeed on Instagram for demonstrations of everything from brioche buns filled with pastry cream to a rainbow-sprinkle loaf perfect for birthday mornings.

1. Birthday Brioche Buns

To kick off Sprinkle Week, Brian demonstrates our Birthday Brioche Buns. These begin with a soft, easy-to-handle brioche dough, are filled with vanilla bean pastry cream, then finished with icing and a generous shower of sprinkles for a festive, bakery-style treat.

2. Tastes Just Like Wedding Cake

We transformed our classic wedding-cake recipe into a birthday-ready layer cake by folding in sprinkles and finishing with swoops of almond frosting. The subtle nutty flavor of the frosting adds elegance while the sprinkles bring that unmistakable celebratory charm.

3. Sprinkle Sugar Cookie

Think sugar cookie, but larger and louder: a giant sprinkle-packed sugar cookie that slices like a cake. It delivers classic sugar-cookie flavor with bright pops of color in every bite. For easy removal we baked ours in a 9-inch springform pan, though a 9-inch round cake pan will also work. Decorate with a piped buttercream border or a simple spread and more sprinkles—the options are endless.

4. Vanilla Buttermilk Mini Cakes with Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting

There’s something timeless about yellow cake with chocolate frosting. For Day Four, we adapted our vanilla buttermilk cake with chocolate buttermilk frosting into individual mini cakes. They’re perfect for smaller gatherings—or for anyone who wants a personal-sized celebration cake. These mini cakes add a colorful, nostalgic touch to any birthday table.

5. Rainbow Sprinkle Bread with Birthday Crumb Topping

To close out Sprinkle Week, Brian shows how to make Rainbow Sprinkle Bread topped with a birthday crumb. Each slice is soft, sweet, and packed with the flavors of birthday cake. A perfect companion to morning coffee, this loaf brings colorful, nostalgic fun to any celebration.
