My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
I’m grateful for a husband who handles the unpleasant tasks around the house, like cleaning drains and emptying outdoor light fixtures full of bugs. GAG!
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
I haven’t set an alarm since early spring, and waking naturally has been wonderful. Most mornings include an early walk along the beach with Lucy, hunting for treasures.
Just last week we found a lobster pot washed ashore and a buoy. It felt like a mini-treasure hunt. I daydream about living on a private island and having first dibs on everything that washes up—Lucy and I would be in paradise.
Goal #3 – Get Organized
September Goals:
- Finish all Christmas ornaments {done}
- Finish at least one rug {done!}
- Pull everything together for the turkey rug {done!} I’ve started hooking. 🙂
I completed all the ornaments and garden markers I planned to make this year, finished a rug, and I’m nearly done with the Thanksgiving turkey rug I hoped to finish by mid-October. Wahoo! I’m on a roll.
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
I followed a linen Roman shade tutorial and installed shades in most rooms. I chose not to cover the sunroom windows—too much beautiful sunlight to hide.
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Makeover {Done}
I cut down a sisal rug we found earlier this summer to fit the spot under my writing desk. The little corner in the master bedroom is now a light, bright place to work on the blog in the mornings—just how I like it.
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update {Done!}
The kitchen renovation is complete, and it has become my wool-sorting station. This explains why we rarely have guests and why, in 20 years, I might appear on a hoarding show surrounded by crafting supplies—I keep everything because I have plans to use it in future projects.
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden {Done!}
We finished many garden projects this year. I’m especially proud of the raised garden boxes my husband built and the brick borders that give the beds a defined look.
It was a lot of work, but it paid off. I’m already looking forward to the next growing season—maybe I’ll try growing watermelons again.
Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine
I meant to take a lot of day trips, but some days staying home in pajamas with the puggle princess felt better. Still, I’ve managed to explore quite a few places throughout the year.
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together {Done!}
We had dinner with our neighbors and held a yard sale. That will probably be the extent of my social calendar for the year, and that’s perfectly fine.
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books
I currently have three audiobooks on hold but can’t remember their titles because the app on my phone is glitchy. Technology can be frustrating.

- The Nightingale
- A Piece of the World
- Olive Kitteridge
- Olive, Again
- Evvie Drake Starts Over

Goal #11 – Learn A New Skill or Craft {Done}
I learned how to make glass swizzle sticks with my neighbor, and they turned out great for my first attempt. We also planned to make a nightlight but haven’t had a chance to finish it yet.
Goal #12 – Visit 12 Museums, Historical Homes or Botanical Gardens (and bakeries too!)
The year started strong with many outings, but things slowed down later. Even so, we visited nearly two dozen new places, which I consider a success.
- Maine Maritime Museum
- Maine Mineral and Gem Museum
- The Island Market
- Cafe DiCocoa
- Hungry Hollow Country Store

Goal #13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of the Year {DONE!}
As of this morning, I’ve reached 5,055 sales on Etsy, up from 2,804 on January 1st. Wahoo! It feels fantastic to hit that milestone.
This past week I added more chicken ornaments to my shop and dyed lots of wool bundles that I’ll be listing soon. It was a very productive week. 🙂
Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning (for 2)
- The HH’s meal plan for the month: Snacking
- My meal plan for the month: Crock Pot Meals
