This Hocus Pocus Potion Float is a festive Halloween ice cream float that’s easy to make and sure to delight guests. A generous scoop of rainbow sherbet is topped with grape soda and finished with gummy worms for a playful, spooky touch—perfect for parties or family gatherings.
Garnishing with Gummy Worms
Gummy worms add a fun, thematic garnish and can be used in two different styles depending on the look you want to achieve.
For a clean, elegant presentation, spear a gummy worm with a toothpick and rest it across the rim of the glass, as shown in the next photo.
For a creepier effect, let the gummy worm hang over the edge so it looks as if it’s crawling out of the float, as shown in the final photo.

Choose Different Glassware for Different Vibes
Glass choice changes the presentation dramatically. Martini glasses give a stylish, elevated feel, while clear plastic cups work well for serving a crowd and still showcase the colorful sherbet layers. For a kid-friendly option, use themed Halloween cups to make the treat extra fun.
When I was a child, my mom made these every Halloween in plastic cups for us. They were always exciting and delicious, no matter the glass.

Making Floats for a Crowd
To serve many guests quickly, pre-scoop the sherbet into cups and place them on a large baking sheet in the freezer. When it’s time to serve, remove the cups, pour in chilled grape soda, and add gummy worms. Pre-chilling the cups helps keep the sherbet colder longer and speeds up service.
Feel free to experiment with sherbet flavors. Lime sherbet pairs especially well with grape soda for a grape-lime float variation. Use whatever flavors you prefer—these floats are flexible and hard to get wrong.
Enjoy!
